In 1519, Hernan Cortés landed with a fleet of 12 ships near present day Veracruz, Mexico. The flotilla held 500 Spaniards, 300 natives, a dozen horses and a few cannons. Cortés’ aim was to conquer the Aztec Empire.
The legend is that before launching the attack Cortés burned his ships to prevent his men from retreating. Through the ages this brazen act has come to represent fully committing to a course of action. Going all in. Burning all bridges.
Sometimes those close to us will advise us, “Well if that doesn’t workout what’s your backup plan?” For some things, Life Giving people don’t have a backup plan.
Life Givers know that when you have a backup plan you will end up settling for it and not your original goal. You remember don’t you, the goals you had for your marriage, your ministry, your business or your life?
As soon as you say, “I’ll try my best,” instead of “I will,” you open the door for “The Backup Plan.” This always sabotages our success. And a well-defined backup is a sabotage waiting to happen.
The Life Givers out there who break through usually have nothing to lose, and they usually have no backup, planned. Some things in life require us to be all in. Acts 21:14
Be Life Giving.
